The year-by-year history of the English, kept in Old English from the reign of Alfred to 1154. It survives in several manuscripts; two are given here, as printed by Charles Plummer in his 1892 edition. The Parker Chronicle (A) is the oldest, begun in Alfred’s reign and ending in 1070; the Laud Chronicle (E) was copied at Peterborough and kept up there until 1154. Each chapter is a year, headed by its date. The combined text gives each year from whichever manuscript tells it at greater length, but the individual editions are also available using the Source switch.
